Home Obituaries Yates, Carolyn
Yates, Carolyn
Carolyn Yates passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 as a result of a massive hemorrhagic stroke on Friday, September 6. She was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas and grew up in Arkansas. She attended Harding University where she obtained a B.A. degree in elementary education. She was an elementary school teacher, a homemaker, and an interior decorator. Carolyn and her husband have lived in Westlake Village 43 years in four different homes. Carolyn was very active in Pepperdine University's Arts Guild, helping inner city children gain exposure to the arts. She was a founding member of the University Church of Christ in 1970 and remained active throughout the years. She is survived by her husband, Jere, and three children-- Camille Block, Kevin Yates, and Brian Yates. She and Jere were married for just over 51 years and were blessed to have four delightful grandchildren: Madeline (18), Abigail (15), Oliver (11), and Avery (22 months). Her most favorite activity was to be with family members and close friends. She was very proud of her grandchildren and took great delight in spoiling them with cash or shopping trips. On shopping trips she rarely missed the opportunity to buy some dark chocolates for others and herself. A Memorial Service will be held September 17 at Calvary Community in Westlake Village at 2:30. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Carolyn's name to United Cerebral Palsy (UCP), an organization that has taken care of her disabled son, Kevin, for almost 40 years: UCP, 6430 Independence Ave., Woodland Hills, CA 91367.
