Fred Kelley, 89, died peacefully at his Newbury Park home on Sunday morning, November 26 2017, after a short illness.

Fred was a member of one of the pioneer families of the Conejo Valley. His great grandfather Casper Borchard settled in Newbury Park in the 1880s. Fred grew up in Newbury Park and attended Timber School when it was a one room schoolhouse. He served in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in mechanical engineering and worked in that capacity for the U.S. Navy at Port Hueneme.

He was very active in Bethany Church on the Hill, giving many hours using his ingenuity and tool skills to craft whatever was needed to support church activities, as well as enjoying fellowship with other members of the congregation.

Fred is survived by his three children, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Kelley.

The funeral will be held at Bethany Church on the Hill, 200 W. Bethany Ct., Thousand Oaks on Tuesday, December 5. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. and the service will follow at 4:30. Interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6.
