David Layton King

Santa Paula, CA

David Layton King, 55, a lifetime Ventura County resident peacefully passed away at his Santa Paula residence on November 20, 2017. David was born on December 23, 1961 and was the proud son of Dorothy and John King of Camarillo.

“Dave” graduated from the South Carolina Camden Military Academy in 1980 and continued on to complete his trade school education with auto and diesel mechanic skills at Darlington Technical in 1982. Dave immediately entered the work force as a diesel mechanic and worked on everything from motorcycles, bulldozers and tractors to any make of automobile. Dave was a gifted master mechanic and could repair anything without ever using a manual or any kind of instruction. Over the years, many of Dave’s clients couldn't’t afford to pay him but if he had the time he would always help someone in need of mechanical repair work. He would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it. Dave had a passion for anything related to motorcycles. He loved dirt bikes and motor sport racing. Some of the best family memories involved either riding dirt bikes in the desert or going to the Laguna Seca raceway to watch the professionals. Dave was also an excellent cook as he loved barbequing, making tacos and homemade salsa. At family social events Dave was full of personality and always at the center of the party. Those that knew him truly understood his character and wit. Dave touched many hearts through the years, he will be dearly missed.

David is survived by his mother Dorothy, daughter Haley, granddaughter Scarlett, brothers Jack (wife Karen) and Mark (wife Julie), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Dave’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, December 7 at Camarillo United Methodist Church, 291 Anacapa Dr., Camarillo.
